Kamen Rider 50th Anniversary Kicks Off With Three Announcements

At the end of March, the official Kamen Rider Web site was updated with a timer. The timers all ended on April 3, which is also the 50th anniversary of the Kamen Rider series.

800 AM JST Announcement

Futo Detective anime

The round of announcements began with Kamen Rider W news. The sequel manga, Futo Detective, will be adapted into an animated series. The anime is scheduled to launch in Summer 2022.

Hideaki Tsukada, who was a producer for Kamen Rider W and supervised for Futo Detective, was announced as a producer for the anime as well.

Futo Detective is still ongoing in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. The released volumes have come with an interview with a cast member who appeared on the show, which ran from 2009-2010.

10 AM JST Announcement

Kamen Rider Black Sun Remake

Kamen Rider Black will be rebooted as Kamen Rider Black Sun and directed by Kazuya Shiraishi. Toei announced that the reboot would be a “new interpretation” of the Kamen Rider Black saga. It’s scheduled to launch in Spring 2022.

1930 JST Announcement

Shin Kamen Rider film

The final announcement came with a press presentation. Hideaki Anno will write and direct Shin Kamen Rider with a projected release window of March 2023. Anno previously released Shin Godzilla (2016) and is currently working on Shin Ultraman (planned for Summer 2021, but now delayed).

The official website for Shin Kamen Rider is now available.

On April 3, Anno composed and released a special anniversary video. The video covers Kamen Rider episodes 1-15.
